EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 26: The final has been made for the last and biggest round of ongoing assembly election involving 21 segments in districts of Srinagar and Jammu. Notification for the seventh and final phase of the Assembly Elections 2008 in Jammu and Kashmir was issued today in which 21 constituencies of three districts of Srinagar, Samba and Jammu will go to polls on December 24. While December 3 has been fixed as the last date for filing nominations, scrutiny of nominations will be done the next day. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures will be December 6. Polling will take place on December 24. The final phase has the highest number of constituencies voting when people will exercise right to elect their representatives from 21 Assembly constituencies out of which Jammu has 11, Samba 2 and Srinagar 8 constituencies, respectively. The final phase also has the highest number of electorate with 16,91,797 voters, which include 8,69,126 male and 8,22,671 female voters, expected to vote across these 21 constituencies, which are Hazratbal, Zadibal, Idgah, Khanyar, Haba Kadal, Amira Kadal, Sonawar and Batamaloo in Srinagar district, Samba and Vijaypur in Samba district, Nagrota, Gandhinagar, Jammu East, Jammu West, Bishnah, R. S. Pura, Suchetgarh, Marh, Raipur-Domana, Akhnoor and Chhamb in Jammu district, respectively. The total electorate that votes during the seventh phase also include 18,214 service electors. A total aggregate of 1,872 polling stations are being set up in these three districts to facilitate voters on polling day. In Srinagar district of central Kashmir, a total of 5,57,279 electors, which include 2,88,992 male and 2,68,287 female voters, will vote across 8 Assembly constituencies. As many as 682 polling stations are being established across the district. Batamaloo with 1,02,762 leads in terms of electors, followed by Hazratbal with 82,667 voters. Amira Kadal constituency has 75,490 voters which include 38,937 male and 36,553 female voters. Haba Kadal has the lowest electorate registered in the district with 51,394 voters. Among the other constituencies, Sonawar has 66,065 electors, Khanyar 53,842, Idgah 58,245 and Zadibal 66,804 voters. Of the 682 polling stations being established in district Srinagar, 126 will be set up in Batamaloo constituency, 110 in Hazratbal, 85 in Amira Kadal, 82 in Khanyar, 75 in Idgah, 74 in Sonawar, 70 in Zadibal and 60 in Haba Kadal. In Samba district, a total of 1,77,028 electors, which include 4,099 service electors are expected to exercise their franchise in two Assembly constituencies of Samba and Vijaypur. Of them, 89,948 are male and 87,080 female voters. Vijaypur is the bigger of the two constituencies in terms of electorate with 1,00,730 voters, which include 50,821 male and 49,909 female voters. In comparison, Samba constituency has 76,298 voters, which include 39,127 male and 37,171 female voters. In terms of service electors, Vijapur constituency has 2,664 while as Samba has 1,435. Out of the 191 polling stations being set up in the district, 103 will be established in Vijaypur and 88 in Samba. In Jammu district, 11 Assembly constituencies will go to polls in the seventh phase of Assembly elections in the State. As many as 9,57,490 electors are likely to vote in Jammu district, which include 4,90,186 male and 4,67,304 female voters. The total electors include 14,101 service voters, which is the highest in any district in the State. As many as 999 polling stations are being set up across the district for the voters on the polling day. In terms of electors, Gandhinagar is the biggest constituency with 1,52,810 voters, which include 79,177 male and 73,633 female voters, closely followed by Jammu West with 1,45,743 electors, which include 74,527 male and 71,216 female voters. Jammu East, which has 55,099 electors, is the smallest constituency going to polls in the district. Among the other constituencies, Raipur-Domana has 91,691 electors, Bishnah 86,281, Akhnoor 84,986, R. S. Pura 77,185, Chhamb 70,828, Marh 67,805, Nagrota 64,705 and Suchetgarh 60,357 electors, respectively. Among the service electors, Bishnah leads with 2,345 followed by Chhamb which has 2,329 electors. The service electors in the other constituencies are 2,119 in Suchetgarh, 1,690 in Akhnoor, 1,539 in R. S. Pura, 1,492 in Marh, 1,171 in Raipur-Domana, 710 in Gandhinagar, 475 in Nagrota, 194 in Jammu West and 37 in Jammu East, respectively. Of the 999 polling stations being set up in the district, 162 will be established in Gandhinagar, 161 in Jammu West, 93 in Akhnoor, 83 each in Raipur-Domana and Bishnah, 82 in Jammu East, 78 in R. S. Pura, 67 in Chhamb, 66 in Marh, 64 in Nagrota and 60 in Suchetgarh, respectively. |
