J&K in trouble against Himachal in U-16 cricket

JAMMU, Nov 27: A face saving 62 runs unbeaten partnership between Jaswinder Singh and Soumay Jain today saved J&K from a humiliating innings defeat in the hands of Himachal Pradesh on the second day of the North Zone under-16 tie for Vijay Merchant Trophy underway at GGM Science College ground, here.
With the two batmen on the crease, J&K managed a 29-run lead over the visitors with two wickets in hand. When the stumps were drawn, J&K were playing at 141 for eight in 42 overs. While Jasvinder was playing at 42, Soumay had in his account 22 runs made under adverse conditions.
Earlier, resumed their play from overnight score of 114 for four in 33 overs, Himachal Pradesh took a formidable 112 runs lead bringing the total to 255 runs in 75.2 overs.
Munish, who was playing at 31, completed his half century making 53 runs studded with eight boundaries. However, Nakul, who was short of four runs to the 50 runs mark, was out at 49. Pace bowler, Behzad Qureshi was most successful bowler from J&K with five for 66 in 23 overs.
Making a poor beginning in the post lunch session, J&K lost their opener, Umar Nissar on duck. However, Sidanth Sharma and Paras Sharma showed some resistance and added 27 runs for the third wicket partnership.
