| PWD contractors warn Govt of contempt suit | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, NOV 28: PWD contractors of Jammu province today asked the various engineering departments to implement high court order giving relaxation to 'A' class contractor and allowing them to compete contracts even up to 2 lakhs otherwise face contempt petition. Addressing media person, Sham Singh Jamwal, President, Contractors Association Jammu province and Balvinder Singh, general secretary, PWD contractors association said that PWD contractors have demanded amendments in Government order dated 09-04-2008 (SRO 122) which has fixed the capacity of A-Class Contractors above Rs 40 lakhs up to 3 crores which is totally un-acceptance to contractors. The President said that it is matter of agony that some engineering departments were still not implementing the High Court directives. The association urged upon all the Engineering Departments including Roads and Building, Irrigation, Flood and Control and Ravi Tawi Irrigation, Public Health Engineering, Mechanical Department, Stores Procurement, Fisheries, Forest, Tourist and Industries Department, Municipalities and Local Bodies, Housing and Urban Development Department Urban Environmental Engineering Department, Estates Organization and any other Government Departments to execute civil construction works through the approved contractors. In they fail to implement the order, the association shall be compelled to file contempt petition against the Departments for not honouring the said order of the High Court", the association warned. Yogeshwar Singh, president, PWD Contractors Association Jammu, Ravi Nath Sharma, senior vice president, Balvinder Singh, general secretary, Prem Nath and Mahesh Singh were also present at the press conference. |
