11/29/2008 11:58:39 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, NOV 28: Accusing the mysterious soft dealing to tackle the menace of terror by the Coalition of the Congress-PDP and earlier by the National Conference Government in Jammu and Kashmir, the former Union Minister and senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has pointed out that over seventy thousand militancy related incidents were registered over the years in this State and thirty thousand persons were arrested including large number of foreigners but there was not a single case in which any of the accused was awarded exemplary punishment. He said the accused not only got freedom but also several of them were provided Government jobs and stipends also although the secessionism and terrorism have claimed over forty thousand human lives including those of innocent civilians and others. In addition this over five lakhs of Kashmiri Pandits and other people have been rendered refugees within their own country, he added.
Addressing election meetings at Janipura, Sarwal, Talab Tillo and other localities of the Jammu West Assembly Constituency, Prof. Gupta pointed out that under POTA 416 cases were registered in the State but all these were put under the carpet after the Congress-PDP and others Coalition came to power. Almost all the accused got freedom, even those who were hauled up in massacres of Rajiv Nagar and other places.
He also charged the Congress and National Conference of being responsible for regional disparities and political subjugation of Jammu for past over sixty years and said that the extent of discrimination against Jammu can be judged from the fact that there are over a dozen Assembly seats in Jammu region which are having more than one lakh voters each whereas in the Valley of Kashmir there is just a one seat which is having about a lakh of voters.
