Arrest of cop with drugs exposes J&K’s Govt casual approach to tackle narco-terrorism
4/27/2022 12:09:31 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 26: Arrest of cop with contraband substance has exposed failure of the J&K government to formulate a comprehensive policy to deal with the menace of drug addiction.
As per reports police arrested two persons including a cop and recovered contraband substance from their possession during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday in central Kashmir's Budgam district.
Police identified the arrested persons as Mohammaed Ayoub Beigh Son of Mohd Jamaal Beigh a resident of Nowhar Chadura who is working as in Police department and is currently posted at district police Line (DPL) Budgam and Nazir Ahmad Shaikh son of Mohd Shafi Sheikh a resident of Tangnar Chadura. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.69/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chadoora and further investigation set into motion.
As reported earlier while governments of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab have decided to form a joint force to tackle the interstate network of drugs smugglers, the authorities in J&K are still in deep slumber to tackle narco-terrorism.
Like other northern states, J&K is virtually slipping into the tight grip of drug mafia and parents are helplessly watching their teenage children dying a slow death due to failure of the authorities to crack down on mafia well connected with politicians and police personnel.
The sensitive border state of J&K is battling narco-terrorism as international drug mafia is smuggling drugs through the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) to sell small portion in the state and the remaining consignment in the neighbouring northern states. Drug addiction is not confined to boys. The menace has now gripped girls too. The number of girls involved in drug abuse has increased manifold. The death of an adolescent, Divya Manhas, due to drug overdose couple of years ago is not an isolated case.
