11/29/2008 11:03:24 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 29: The State unit of the Congress has appealed to the Kashmiri migrant voters, including those registered in the three constituencies in Jammu city, to strengthen the hand of the Congress by casting their votes in favour of the party candidates.
In his plea to the migrant voters Congress leader, Prof.Hari Om, today said that it was under the Congress led UPA Government at the Centre that the prestigious Jagti housing complex was sanctioned for the displaced families. He said it was the Congress that approved the construction of two-room flats for the migrants in Muthi Phase two complexes. He said several families have shifted from one-room shanty to the two-room flats.
Hari Om said that Prime Minister, Mammohan Singh, had sanctioned Rs.200 crore projects for bettering the lot of the migrants. He said it was again the Congress that conceded the demand of the displaced families for increase in cash relief.
The Congress leader said that the voters belonging to the displaced families could tilt the scales in the ongoing election provided they remain united on their resolve to support that party which had come to their side .He said the BJP in Jammu and the erstwhile BJP led NDA Government had done nothing concrete for the displaced people except for rendering "lip service to them. "He appealed to the migrant voters to support the Congress candidates not only in Gandhi Nagara, Jammu East and Jammu West constituencies but in several Assembly segments in the Kashmir valley, including Anantnag, Bijebehara, Shopian, Kokernag, Habba Kadal, Amira Kadal and Batamaloo.
