| NC to empower all regions: Omar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Gool, Nov 30: National Conference President Omar Abdullah has said that if the National Conference is voted to power it will remove inter region , intra region disparities and ensure equitable distribution of resources among all regions and sub regions of the state. Addressing of series of meetings at Mahore and Panansa in support of Abdul Gani Malik and Gh. Qadir Mughal party's candidates from Gool-Arnas and Gulabgarh constituencies, Omar said that the far flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir have been totally neglected by the erstwhile PDP-Congress government and so shall need special emphasis and focus for their integrated development. He said National Conference is committed to the welfare and the upliftment of the people of the far flung areas and shall continue to strive for the betterment of living conditions in these areas of the state. Omar said India and Pakistan must initiate substantive Confidence Building Measures to ensure peace in the sub-continent. He said peace is paramount and while the National Conference will continue to work for better bilateral relations between India and Pakistan for the resolution of the Kashmir issue it is committed to address the day to day issues of the common man in the state and find redressal to his grievances on immediate priority. Omar said that the NC government if voted to power will not only ensure employment avenues within the state but also get the PSUs, Govt of India Undertakings and paramilitary forces to launch a special recruitment drive for the people of the state. Omar said the party will re-start the process of recruitment of youth in the Police department by sending the Director General of Police to remote areas as was being done in the previous National Conference government. He said the party will also lower the qualification bar for appointment of constables in Police department and Class IV category to middle pass and not matric as imposed by the erstwhile Congress-PDP government. Omar promised that National Conference government immediately after coming to power will decentralize the process of governance to the Panchayat level and shall hold elections to all the Panchayats and fully support them to discharge their functions as envisaged in the Panchayati Raj Act, enacted by National Conference Government in 1989. He said his party will empower the women folk by providing representation to them in Panchayats and promised that the minimum wages will be raised from Rs. 70/- to Rs. 150/- per day for the labourers so as to improve their living condition besides subsidizing electricity tariff and LPG. Among others who spoke on the occasion were Gh. Qadir Mughal, Abdul Gani Malik and MLC Devender Singh Rana. |
