| Politics not about temples, mosques: Azad | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Mantalai, Nov 30: In an indirect attack on his party’s erstwhile partner in the ruling coalition, the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today appealed people to not vote for the parties seeking support on basis of religion. Addressing a serious of public meetings in various constituencies of Udhampur, Doda and Kishtwar, Azad said people should remain cautions of the leaders who demand votes by provoking religious sentiments and arousing fanatic feelings. He said that since this is not the election of a temple or a mosque so there is no need of merely a Hindu or a Muslim but an honest and dedicated social worker. He added that the fanatics who demand votes on religious basis have no development agenda and no right to demand votes on religious grounds. He said that the party that cannot have the faith of public to bring development and peace, has no right to be in power. Praising the people of Chenani for harmonious coexistence he lamented that the discriminatory and fanatic attitude of some parties have provoked the members of other communities and particularly the perverted elements in our society and brought havoc in the country. He said that this year Congress has given tickets to 8 Gujjars. He said that since every year all money for welfare of Gujjars used to get lapsed so he had established a separate directorate of Scheduled Tribes ( STs) in addition to the directorate of Scheduled Castes (SCs). He had increased the reservation for appointments for Gujjars from 4 to 8 percent and in service promotions from 5 to 10 percent. He said that he had got Mantalai incorporated in the Patnitop Development Authority for its development. “Since this is one of the best places in our state so I wanted to open a big hotel, health centre and a Yoga centre at Mantlai so that the people from all over the country and world would come here and boost tourism and bring prosperity to the villagers here and fulfill the dream of late Dhirender Brahamchari,” he said. He said that there were only 3 Tourism Authorities in the state in past 60 years but he had established 19 more Tourism Authorities and three Tourist Circuits during his short tenure of two and half years and Rs,20 cr. were sanctioned for each Tourism Authority. He said that he had got one Rope-Way at Kud sanctioned and the Supreme Court too has also given the forest clearance for the project now thus paving the way for the execution of the project. He also said that since the development of road network is essential so he got the construction of Rs.27 cr.worth Chenani –Mantalai road started. He said that when he was the Chief Minister he had ordered that the license or card of that contractor should be cancelled who is unable to complete the work in time so that the projects are not delayed and work culture is induced in the state. He said that such was the work culture during his regime that the Yatri Niwas for Amarnath Yatries at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu for 6 cr. was constructed only in only 4 months which might be a record in India of an expeditious construction. He said that his government had got 35 new hospitals constructed in many a districts of the state and a big hospital on the pattern of AIIMS at Rs.120 cr.each was got started in Jammu and Srinagar to provide super specialised treatment to the people of the state. And only in 10 months the 80 percent of the work on Jammu hospital has been completed. He promised that if returned to power he would provide power, road and water to every village. Earlier at Padder he boasted that besides the commissioning of 390 MW Dulhasti and 450 Baghlihar Hydel Projects the hydel projects at Pakal-Dul,Keru,Kowad,Karthar (Padder) and Rithal (in Inderwal constituency) in Kishtwar disshall also be constructed thereby giving sufficient employment to the local youths. He said that Machail-Gulabgarh road,Padyarna-Bagna(Nahgseni block) road and the Ligri-Padder road have been sanctioned and their tenders have also been sanctioned .He regretted that had his government been not dissolved the Warvan-Kokernag road might also been completed and Kishtwar been connected with Kashmir. He claimed that prior to his government only 35 colleges were established in past 60 years in the state while as during his short tenure 41 new colleges including the college at Chatru,Marwah and Kilhotran were sanctioned. |
