Amarnath Yatra set to be mega event
5/12/2022 11:22:36 PM

Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir is being held after a span of two years and it’s expected to be a mega event this year. In 2019 the annual pilgrimage was cut short due to the abrogation of Article 370 and it couldn’t be held due to COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
The Amarnath Yatra 2022 will commence on June 30 and will continue for 43 days. The Ministry of Home Affairs is making all the preparations and arrangements for pilgrims as this year the number of devotees is all set to double. The government is expecting around 10 lakh pilgrims. In view of the large numbers of devotees, eight pre-fabricated tent townships are being set up at the base camp at Baltal and along the route to the holy cave on the lines of the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
Taking Covid-19 into consideration, the J&K administration will set up a 100-bed makeshift hospital in Srinagar while two 30-bed makeshift hospitals will come up along the route. This time a few oxygen booths are also being setup at various places on the ‘Yatra route’ for the pilgrims. Two or three isolation centres will also be set up to isolate the Covid-infected persons.
Special arrangements are being made to ensure that pilgrims enjoy uninterrupted mobile connectivity to remain in touch with their family members. Nearly 1,45,000 pilgrims have already registered themselves with the Amarnath Shrine Board and the number is swelling with each passing day.
Besides enhancing the facilities the government is making elaborate security arrangements to keep the terrorists at bay. In the recent past encounters have taken place in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Five ultras have been eliminated in these gunfights.
Security agencies termed the killings of the ultras along the yatra route as a big success and stated that the imminent threat to yatra has been taken care off.
The Centre has sent additional paramilitary CRPF personnel to ensure that pilgrims are provided with enhanced security and all the nefarious designs of ultras are foiled.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all the security agencies to increase the vigil and ensure that all the attempts of terrorists are foiled and the pilgrims perform the yatra peacefully.
