| 37 ITI’s functional in state | | Latest vocational education imperative for students: Aijaz | | Srinagar, September 15 - Work is apace on the construction of 7 new Degree college complexes at a cost of over Rs. 11 crore under taken by JKPCC provided by the government. Besides memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed with National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) for construction of 11 more degree colleges by the state government. This information was given to Minister of state for Higher and Technical Education, Forest and Agriculture Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan at a high level meeting of officers convened to review the progress of various under execution works. Keeping up with the commitment to impart high and technical education for all deserving, the government has opened 18 degree colleges last year taking the number of degree colleges to 54 in the state. Besides others Principal Secretary Higher & Technical Education Mr. Ashok Angurana, Director Colleges DR. Nizamu-Din Wani and Secretary Cultural Academy of Arts and Culture Dr. Rafique Masoodi attended the meeting. It was given out that 793 posts of lecturers have already been referred to Public Service Commission for early recruitment to fill up the vacancies in various colleges. Reviewing functioning of Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) it was told that in all 37 ITI’s are functional in the state besides 9 ITI are being set up under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme. Efforts are underway to impart latest training to candidates so that they could compete in the technical fields and earn livelihood. About 6625 candidates are being imparted vocational training annually in these institutions. Renovation work is in progress on 30 protected monuments including 15 works in Srinagar and 15 in Jammu province under Archive department, the meeting was informed. Secretary Cultural Academy Dr. Masoodi informed that in order to promote cultural activities, various measures to modernize Music and Fine Art institutions in Srinagar and Jammu have been initiated where from Bachelor Degrees are being awarded to candidates. He said academy issues 13 publications in a month in all leading languages of the state. A revenue of Rs. 30 lakh has been earned by sale of publications, rent and display of other cultural activities till date during current year. Presently there are 140 government libraries with 4 lakh books in the state, he added. |
