| Sports must for overall personality development: Gurdeep Saini | | |  Early Times Report
RS PURA, May 18: Gurdeep Saini, Sarpanch Panchayat Gandli and General Secretary All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), while asserting that sports is must for the overall personality development of youth, has urged the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory administration to provide adequate sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of J&K.
The AJKPC Gen Secretary stated this in his address during a function at Ward No: 5 in Kothey Chak Nanak here today. He distributed cricket kits which were provided by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, among the children of this ward.
Speaking on the occasion, Gurdeep Saini said that there is dire need to promote sports activities not only for a healthy citizenry but more than that to divert the youth from the path of indulging in drug related activities. He said adequate sports infrastructure needs to be made available across the length and breadth of the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory by the administration in order to ensure that youth overwhelmingly participate in sports activities thus leaving less scope for their indulgence in drug abuse that has become a big menace for the society as of today.
The Sarpanch said that sports and academics are equally significant for overall personality development of every individual.
He asserted that it’s not just your body that benefits from sports but playing sports contributes to mental health, helping to prevent depression and increase self-esteem and body image. He said that individuals who participate in sports might also benefit from the social aspect, developing friendships with teammates and feeling part of a group.
Youth excelling in the field can also adopt as a lucrative career. Moreover children can learn positive mental health skills including accountability, leadership and dedication by regularly participating in sports.
Gurdeep Saini appealed to the children and youth of the area to make sports part of their routine along with academics so that the nation is ensured a healthy citizenry. |
