Swaranjali: A Tribute to late Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma held at Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar

Hiranagar, May 21: Department of music in co-ordination with department of sociology and department of physical education and sports Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar oraganisedswaranjali (a tribute via musical performance) in the memory of late Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. Son of the soil, PadamShri, Padam Vibhushan, Master of Santoor, Pandit ShivKumar Sharma left for heavenly abode at the age of 84 on 10thof May 2022. Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma is known for single handedly introducing 100 string instrument called santooroutside Kashmir into prominent component of Hindustani classical music. The programme begun with lightning of the lamp and presentation of floral tributes to Pandit Ji by Principal of the college; Dr. Pragya Khanna and other staff members. Principal of the college in her address stressed on the contributions of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma Ji in sufi, classical and bollywood Music. She further said that his untimely death is an irreparable loss to all the music lovers. Dr. Mukesh Kumar Assistant Professor in Music paid tributein the form of Raga Ahir Bhairav and Bhajan in Raga Bhairavi to Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. Two self composed Dogri songs and a Hindi song was sung by students of music subject namely; Ganga, Madhu, Payal, Arti, Nisha and Mohini. Dr. Bharat Bhushan spoke on the contributions of Pandit Ji in classical and bollywood music and also shared his personal experiences with him. The momentos were presented to all the performers by the Principal and other senior staff members of the college. The proceedings of the event and vote of thanks were handled by Dr. Arun Kumar, Head Department of Sociology. The whole event was organised in consultation and support of the principal of the college Dr. Pragya Khanna.
