| Only Rs 20,000 as Mehbooba opens purse strings | | STATE OF WEALTH | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 1: Her party leaders have millions invested in banks or properties but Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti does not have much wealth to boast off. The only possession which Mehbooba has in her own name is a Maruti Swift Car and that too on bank loan. No real estate investments, no debentures and not even a house to own, as Kashmir’s emerging political force makes declaration of her assets and liabilities while filing her nomination papers from Wachi constituency in Shopian district of South Kashmir. Mehbooba has said in her statement that she has only Rs 40,000 cash in hand and some Rs 129,000 invested in banks. No lands, houses or properties in her name though she has some quantity of gold –a most important possession of any woman whether in politics or not. The PDP President owns 900 grams of gold which has been valued at Rs 9.90 lakhs. The PDP President, one of three daughters of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has not claimed any share in the ancestral property and therefore there is no house or land in her name anywhere in Kashmir, Jammu or in Delhi. Mehbooba’s only property in her own name is a Maruti Swift Car in New Delhi. This car was bought on a loan of Rs 4.62 lakhs from HDFC Bank and installments worth Rs 2.6 lakhs are still pending. Interestingly, Mehbooba is perhaps the least wealthy among all candidates contesting elections from Wachi constituency. Her National Conference rival Showkat Hussain Ganei has estates and land worth Rs 220 lakhs in his and wife’s name. The Congress candidate claims that he has agricutlrual land worth Rs 33 lakhs. Mohammad Khalil Naik, who won this constituency in 2002, has a bank deposit of Rs 370,000 and cash in hand Rs 30000 only. |
