Forensic Scientist is chiefly concerned with the application of scientific techniques and principles for the investigation of a crime. Increasing crime rate in the society and advancement of the technology and above all the motto of the Governments of the worlds that “may 100 criminal be spared but 1 innocent should not be punished at any cost” the role of forensic scientists has increased a lot. Using advanced technology, forensic experts/scientists convert the clues collected from the scene of the crime into evidences which are admissible in a court of law. The career of a forensic scientist is interesting and challenging for those who love to have an adventure in their life. Forensic scientists analyze all physical evidence like traces of blood, saliva, hair, fingerprints etc found on a victim on the scene of the crime and compare it to the evidence found on a suspect and provide testimony in a court of law. Their expertise lies in the determination of facts using these evidence. They work closely with the police and prepare a report of their investigation and appear in the court to give evidence. The career of a Forensic scientist is not only full of challenges and thrills but also required a great deal of hard work. One who is going to choose this as a career is certainly a challenger. Eligibility:
For taking up Forensic scientist as a profession one should have a masters degree in forensic science. A graduate degree in the relevant subjects is the primary requirement for doing a masters degree in forensic sciences offered by certain institutes across the Country.
Eligibility to become a Forensic Expert/Scientist
1. Educational Qualification
A graduate degree in relevant subjects like physics, chemistry, zoology, botany, biochemistry, microbiology, B. Pharma, BDS or applied science etc with the at least first division is the primary requirement for doing a Master’s degree courses offered by certain institutes across the Country
How to become a Forensic Scientist?
To be a Forensic Scientist one has to follow the below-given steps:-
Step 1
For becoming a Forensic Scientist one has to join Master degree course offered by the various institution in the country and to become a specialist who conducts post-mortems on dead bodies to find out the cause of death, one must first secure an MBBS degree and then go for an MD in forensic sciences.
Step 2
After completing the course one can either start his laboratory straightway or can join some law enforcement agencies like police, legal system and the investigative services of the government. Opportunities for forensic scientists exist in government organizations such as intelligence bureau (IB), the central bureau of Investigation (CBI) and as investigative officers in the crime cells of state police forces. Forensic experts essentially work in forensic labs and sometimes even in large private detective agencies to establish the link between the criminals and the crime.
Forensic Scientist Job Description and Career Prospects
Using advanced technology, Job profile of forensic scientists includes converting the clues collected from the scene of the crime into evidence using the advanced technology. This evidence is used against the culprits in the court of law.
Forensic Scientist Salary
Forensic experts can expect between Rs.30,000 to Rs.40,000 a month as their initial salary if they have joined some detective agency.
Which can increase with the time and experience whereas there is no limit for those who are operating their own? They can charge anything from Rs.5,000 per case to Rs.2 lakh. This depends upon the sensitivity of the information required and the difficulty and time involved in getting that work done. There is a variety of Forensic professional. They can specialize in subjects like medicine, engineering, fingerprinting, insect study, language and geology etc and took his career in a particular field of the forensic sciences.
