Last phase heavyweights file papers

Srinagar/Jammu, Dec 1: It was a storming day of stalwarts from almost all political parties gearing for the last phase of elections who filed their nomination papers in both capital districts of the state.
Srinagar and Jammu districts will go polls in last phase on December 24. National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and BJP state president Ashok Khajuria are among the key contenders in the last phase.
In Srinagar City, almost all National Conference nominees filed their nomination papers and the spree was led by the Chief Ministerial candidate Dr Farooq Abdullah.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah Patron National Conference today filed his nomination papers from Hazratbal assembly constituency. Besides Dr. Abdullah, Peer Afaq Ahmed, Mubarak Gul, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Shameema Firdous, Nasir Sogami and Irfan Ahmed Shah also filed their nomination papers from Zadibal, Idgah, Khanyar, Habbakadal, Amirakadal and Batmaloo assembly constituencies.
Earlier Dr. Abdullah accompanied with Omar Abdullah President National Conference offered Namaz at Hazratbal Shrine and thereafter paid obeisance at graveyard of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
Dr. Abdullah while addressing a public gathering near TRC Srinagar said peace in the subcontinent is not possible unless and until the relations between India and Pakistan are strengthened. He urged the Union Government to accelerate the peace process so that peace could return to the sub-continent and people could harvest the gains.
He said dialogue is the only process which can facilitate return of peace in the subcontinent.
Dr. Abdullah said my party has conceived an agenda for governance as it strongly believes that Good governance is a primary requisite for overall development, Dr. Abdullah said adding that if given a chance a stable strong National Conference government will take the state to new heights of development.
Dr. Abdullah said the National Conference after coming to power will re-start the process of recruitment of youth in the Police department by sending the Director General of Police to remote areas as was being done in the previous National Conference government. He said the party will also lower the qualification bar for appointment of constables in Police department and Class IV category to middle pass and not matric. Moreover, besides creating avenues for the young unemployed youths, NC government would focus on providing clean drinking water, better road connectivity, specialized health care facilities and above all better education to the children, he said.
In Jammu, Ashok Khajuria of BJP and Congress stalwart Mangat Ram Sharma also filed their nomination papers before respective Returning Officers.
