Jammu, May 22: Department of Environmental Sciences of GDC Purmandal organized Green Wave Campaign to raise awareness about Biodiversity and contribute to Worldwide Celebrations of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) on 22nd of May, 2022. This day is celebrated each year as a reminder to all for our duties towards conservation and sustainable utilization of vast resources of Biodiversity that envelops us. It is also a reminder that we need to arrest the pace of degradation of our Biodiversity mainly due to over bearing acts of human being. The whole programme was conducted under the patronage of Prof. Seema Mir, Principal of the college. Prof. Seema Mir in her address said that biodiversity and natural resources are vital for the sustenance of humans which should be protected by any means. She further added that Environment and the surroundings around us are becoming very threatening wherein, she mentioned about the various environmental problems like global warming and its horrible effects on mother nature is alarming. Coordinator of the event and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Shahima Akhter spoke at length about biodiversity conservation and she laid stress on aforestation as the greenery around us makes the eyes glow and it also enhances eyesight and one feels spiritually elated. About ten faculty members including worthy Principal of the College and twenty students took part in the activity by planting a tree in their nearby surroundings at 10:am local time creating a green wave. The whole event was Co-ordinated by Prof. Shahima Akhter (HOD EVS) and technically supported by Mr. Akshay (computer operator of the college).
