PDP has 10 women in fray

Srinagar, Dec 2: With the issuance of its last list of candidates, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given mandate to highest number of women candidates in the ensuing polls.
Out of its 87 candidates, PDP has given mandate to nine women candidates, highest by a single political party in the State. The female candidates contesting the assembly polls on PDP mandate include Mehbooba Mufti from Wachi, Asiya Naqash from Hazratbal, Asifa Tariq from Eidgah, Sehar Iqbal from Kokernag, Mumtaz Kausar from Gulabgarh, Shanti Devi from Jammu East, Shamshad Shaan from Gool, Surjeet Kaur from Gandhi Nagar and Anita Devi from Samba.
It is pertinent to mention that while heading the Coalition Government, PDP had in 2004 local body elections implemented 33 percent reservation for women corporators.
