Poonch festival aims to spread cross - cultural awareness: DC
"Over 200 local artists performing in mega event"

POONCH, May 27: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Inder Jeet today informed that the District Administration and Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) was all set to organize a two day Traditional & Cultural Festival at Shri Krishan Chander Memorial Government Degree College Ground in Poonch District on May 28 and May , 2022 .
Speaking to media persons, here at a Press Conference, he said the festival forms the part of J&K Government's endeavours to revive the old age rich culture of Jammu and Kashmir.
"During the course of the event, in the daytime, local folk music and dance forms like Kud, Bakh, Massadey, Geetru, Chajja, Haran, Jagarna, Gojri and Pahari etc. will be displayed to spread cross - cultural awareness amongst the visitors and the locals" he added.
He said "The festival will be holistic in nature displaying local crafts and cuisine via stalls / kiosks. We'd invite regional craftspersons, Self- Help Groups, and people connected with the concerned Agencies, Departments and Organizations to set up their stalls at the venue" .
Another attraction of the event is that the Academy and District Administration the local youth from the Schools, Colleges and others will be provided a platform to display their talent in folk or any art form, she informed further.
He said that a Nukkad team has already been performing at major locations in and around the venue generating awareness about the social causes and parallelly advertising the event.
"The impact of the program will be multi - faceted: The promotional activity will preserve the sanctity of the festival and also help us provide subsistence and motivation to more than 200 artists" he said.
