Early Times Report

Jammu, May 29: Security forces seized huge quantity of contraband with Afgaan Milat (999) mark near the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
A senior police official on Sunday said that alert security troops of Poonch Brigade of Indian Army and J&K Police foiled the narcotics smuggling bid.
"On May 25, on the basis of certain inputs received about attempts from enemy to smuggle contraband, a search operation was launched in Bagyaldara area near LoC," he said.
The operation was planned tactfully, keeping in mind the terrain and other conditions of border, which continued for about three days and on the intervening night of May 25 and 26, suspicious movement was noticed, which was challenged by alert troops, but in return they opened fire.
"The active ambush party retaliated, but taking advantage of darkness, the suspected anti-national elements managed to flee away, following which a search operation was launched in the area. Quadcopters and Sniffer dogs were pressed into service, backed by a well-integrated surveillance grid, coupled with extensive domination of area close to the Line of Control," said the officer.
He said on Saturday, search parties with the help of sniffer dogs, spotted two big gunny bags covered by clothes near a house and on checking, 32 polythene packets each containing about 1.4 kg narcotic-like substance weighing around 49 kg in total having stamps of Shafiq Hilmand Karwan Al – Saadat Afgaan Milat (999) and Super Star International 2017, was seized.
"The narcotic substance was seized and a case was registered under relevant Sections of law," he said, adding that investigation was going on in the case.
