MP Jugal Kishore flags off World Bicycle Rally at War Memorial Gurha Slathia
Urges youth to achieve physical fitness, work for environment conservation

SAMBA, June 3: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jammu on Friday organized a World Bicycle Day at War Memorial, Gurha Slathia, in collaboration with Vir Partap Singh Guidance and Counseling Cell, Gurha Slathia, Samba.
Member Parliament (Lok Sabha) Jugal Kishore Sharma the Chief Guest of the programme while DDC Chairman, Keshav Dutt Sharma presided over the function and flagged off the Cyclothon.
The Bicycle Rally started from Gurah Slathia and ended at Brig. Rajinder Park, Bagoona, -the iconic place of Jammu & Kashmir, and concluded back at War Memorial, Gurah Slathia. More than 90 cyclists participated in the Bicycle Rally.
The main motive of the programme was to spread the message to protect the environment from the pollution caused by motor vehicles on a global scale every day.
In his address, the MP Jugal Kishore Sharma said that promoting cycling in a country with a large population like ours will promote fitness and environmental protection measures. "This will also solve problems like traffic jams, increasing tension in the society, and road rage to a large extent," he added.
Highlighting its health benefits, the MP said that cycling can cure cardiovascular problems, add to the muscle strength and flexibility, improve joint mobility, decrease stress levels, improve posture and coordination, strengthen bones, decrease body fat levels, prevent and manage diseases. He further added that cycling as a means of transport was the best solution for increasing vehicular pollution.
"Bicycle don't release harmful emissions that pollute the atmosphere, nor any carbon dioxide that contributes to climate change, Harmful Chemicals are reduced, More Bikes Equals Fewer Roads, Noise is also Pollution" he added. He also appreciated the youth for participating in such kinds of activities and the work done by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jammu for the uplift of Youth and Nation Building.
Earlier, Nisar Ahmed Butt, State Director, NYKS welcomed the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour by presenting them with flowers and Mementoes.
The Chief Guest along with other dignitaries paid floral tribute to the Martyrs at War memorial Gurha Slathia.
Dr. Rupali Slathia, North Division Coach BCCI (Sports Iconic Personality), Sudarshan Slathia, DDC Member, and other dignitaries also accompanied the MP.
The Cyclothon was followed by a colourfull cultural programme featuring Patriotic songs and presented by the youth of village Gurha Slathia.
Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma also presented the certificates to the participants.
At last Col. Jaswant Singh (Retd) presented the vote of thanks. Other dignitaries present were Jatinder Singh Sarpanch; Priyanka Verma, DySP; Dr. Hitesh, Medical Officer, Sunil Kumar DYSSO Samba and Col. Jaswant Singh and social workers.
