EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 3: A month before beginning of the New Year, the Government has released a calendar of holidays for the year 2009. Put together official holidays and Sunday will leave 2009 with around three months of off days. As per the Government notification, there shall be 28 official holidays, including the national days and holidays on account of all religious festivals. Adding to this list, around 52 Sundays of the year will make total holidays around 80 in the coming year. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, in exercise of powers conferred by the explanation of Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act 26 of 1881) read with Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs Notification No. 20/25/56/Pub-Ist dated 30-11-1957, has declared the following days as public holidays in the State during the year 2009: Muharram, Thursday, January 8; Republic Day, Monday, January 26; Maha Shiv-Ratri, Monday, February 23; Eid-e-Milad-ul-Nabi, Tuesday, March 10; Holi (Jammu Province only), Wednesday, March 11; Friday Following Eid-e-Milad-ul-Nabi, Friday, March 13; Ist Navratra, Friday, March 27; Yearly closing of Banks (Banks only), Wednesday, April 1; Baisakhi, Monday, April 13; Birthday of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Tuesday, April 14; Buddha Purnima, Saturday, May 9; Guru Hargobind Ji's Birthday, Sunday, July 5; Martyrs Day, Monday, July 13; Janamashtami, Friday, August 14; Independence Day, Saturday, August 15; Shab-i-Qadr, Thursday, September 17; Jumati-ul-Vida, Friday, September 18; Eid-ul-Fitr, Monday, September 21; Dusshera, Monday, September 28; Half yearly Closing of Banks (Banks only), Wednesday, September 30; Mahatma Gandhiji's Birthday, Friday, October 2; Diwali, Saturday, October 17; Guru Nanak Devji's Birthday, Monday, November 2; Eid-ul-Azha, Saturday and Sunday, November 28 and 29; Birthday of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Saturday, December 5; Christmas Day, Friday, December 25; and Muharram, Monday, December 28. The number of the holidays shall, however, be subject to review at appropriate time. Similarly, the holidays on account of Muharram; Eid-e-Milad-ul-Nabi; Friday Following Eid-e-Milad-ul-Nabi; Shab-i-Qadr; Jumati-ul-Vida; Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha are subject to appearance of moon. |
