Baig lacks humility, accessibility: NC tells Baramulla people
12/3/2008 9:50:11 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Baramulla, Dec 3: Omar Abdullah President J&K National Conference said the opening of Srinagar Muzafarrabad road is a cruel joke with the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Addressing a series of public meeting here today, Omar said the much touted confidence building measure has turned out to be farce because the people on both sides of the LOC have not been allowed to travel freely. He said the restrictions imposed and the formalities required for travel are so complicated and elaborate that very few people have been able to travel on this road.
Omar said even the PDP which has been projecting the opening of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road as a great achievement of their government are now backtracking and the PDP President is now terming the opening of the road as an "token gesture". He said it is unfortunate that PDP has always played to the gallery and created much hype about issues with the intent of misleading the people without infact doing proper ground work.
He said it is because of this lop-sided approach of the PDP government that while hollow slogans were raised, tall promises were made, publicity gimmicks were performed no concrete initiatives were taken.
Omar said Kashmir has always suffered at the hands of the parties like PDP because they have always indulged in politics of deceit and survived through political intrigues without bothering about the people of Kashmir and their welfare. He said while today PDP is again making tall promises for the future they have conveniently forgotten the promises made in 2002. He said PDP's performance in the last six years was dismal and he is confident that the people of Jammu & Kashmir will teach them a befitting lesson in the forthcoming assembly elections.
Omar said six years of coalition government led to an administrative anarchy and chaos and brought the process of development in the state to a standstill. He said in the name of development the PDP-Congress government in the state has given the state unemployment, financial mismanagement, poverty, bad roads, dry taps, poor health care and crippled education system.
Omar said Congress-PDP misrule has brought misery to the people of the state and even their basic needs have not been catered to by a defective incompetent delivery mechanism which was the outcrop of a defunct government.
Addressing the gathering Gujjar leader Mian Altaf held former Finance Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig responsible for the administrative mess in the last six years. Altaf said Beig lacks the basic qualities of humility and accessibility which are a perquisite for any public representative and as such has badly led down the people of Baramulla who trusted with their mandate.
