EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 3: Asserting that the Congress led UPA Government has lost its utility and proved a total failure on various fronts, the former Chief Minister of Himachal and a senior BJP leader, Shanta Kumar has said that it is the time for every nationalist to act for the regaining of their pride.
Addressing a massive rally here after the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta filed his nomination papers for Jammu West Assembly Constituency today, Shanta Kumar said that Prof. Gupta has been fielded for this constituency not only to see him as a member of the Assembly but we have some other aspects in mind also. The BJP leader said the people of Jammu have been facing discrimination and other problems for a long time now and this was the reason that there was mass upsurge on the issue of Swami Amarnath Jee land row.
Though this row was concerned much with the faith but there was also the question of pride of the nationalists, he aid adding that the time has come that this social pride be converted into a political power, so as to undo the injustices of so many years inflicted to the people of Jammu.
Shanta Kumar listed the failures of the Congress led UPA Government at various fronts and impressed upon the electorate to vote unitedly to strengthen the BJP which represented the National will and have the policies and programs to tackle the menace of the terrorism, unemployment, price rise and other maladies.
The rally was also addressed by Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, who said the terrorist attack of Mumbai has badly exposed the functioning of UPA Government as it did not act in time even after there were reports that Taj and other important places are on the target of the ultras. It is a matter of shame that it took sixty hours to neutralize the terrorists, he remarked.
Assailing the Congress for its claims of progress and prosperity, Prof Gupta referred to the plight of many localities and slums in the Jammu West Constituency and questioned that where the huge amounts allocated in the package of the Prime Minister were spent.
Besides, Shanta Kumar, a senior BJP leader and former Pradesh President, Dr. Nirmal Singh and Mayor Kavinder Gupta were also present when Prof. Gupta filed his nomination papers.
Earlier, several thousands of people took out a rally through different parts of the Constituency which later on was converted into the huge public meeting.
