Harvesting of Sweet Corn begins at Krishi Bhawan Jammu

JAMMU, June 7: Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Jammu, K.K. Sharma today inaugurated the first harvesting of Sweet Corn (SV 6881 SN) being grown under scientific lines here at Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo.
Different Exotic/Improved Vegetable varieties of Indeterminate Tomatoes, Coloured Bellpepers, Red Okra, Cucurbits have been grown under Naturally Ventillated Polygreen House (NVPGH) structure, Bower System using advanced vegetable cultivation practices for demonstration and popularization among the farmers.
Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), A.S.Reen, Joint Director Agriculture (Farms/SLUB), Vijay Kumar Upadhaya, Joint Director (Apiculture & Mushrooms), R.K. Hitaishi, Joint Director Agriculture (Extension), Subash Sharma, Joint Director (Marketing), Mahesh Verma, Deputy Director (Central), Vivek Kohli, CAO Jammu, Arvind Baru, P.O. Dryland, Akshay Choudhary, Agronomist (Vegetable Improvement Scheme), J. C. Raina, Assistant Botanist, Mrs. Ambika Rani, besides other officers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director Agriculture stressed upon the officers to promote the production of exotic and high value vegetables under protected and controlled conditions to get round the year production with high returns.
Agronomist (Vegetables) informed that sweet corn is rich in carbohydrates packed with fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and is in high demand in the market.
Later, Director Agriculture along with other senior officers also inspected the Okra varieties including Kashi Lalima, Abhinandan & BSS-1019 Red besides other Technological Interventions demonstrated under Vegetable Improvement Scheme
