SRINAGAR, June 7: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday detained a wanted drug peddler under the Public Safety Act (PSA) from the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.
Police detained former police cop and resident of Kawari Laderwan Trehgam, Ghulam Mohd Bhat alias Gul Bhat under the PSA, for his unrelenting involvement in the crime.
Bhat was dismissed from police some three years back from services for his bad behaviour and misconduct in the department, police said.
He has been involved in three cases of narcotics smuggling and had amassed huge property, for which he was facing a criminal case.
Bhat not only used to sell narcotics among the vulnerable youth in and around Kupwara, but was also smuggling narcotics from the valley to other parts of Jammu & Kashmir and beyond, they said.
He had established a drug syndicate in the district and became a threat to the lives of younger generations, police added. |
