| PG women to take on GCW Parade in cricket final | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 3: Government College for Women (GCW) shall be playing against the combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of University of Jammu in the final of inter-college women’s cricket tournament tomorrow at University of Jammu grounds, here. Earlier, in the semi-finals, played today, GCW Parade defeated Women College Udhampur by a narrow margin of one run. Batting first, GCW Parade set a target of 92 runs losing all their wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Nayana was top scorer with 22 runs while Shivani contributed17 runs. From Udhampur College, Shardha clinched four wickets while Jyoti bagged three. In reply, Udhampur College made a good start but lack of match temperament haunted them badly in the last 20th over and they fell short of one run from the target with one wicket in hand. Mrinalini made highest 25 runs, followed by Jyoti, who added 18 runs. Ragini was most successful bowler with five wickets while Sonali took two and Monika one. In the second semi-final, PG Departments registered an outright win over GCW Gandhi Nagar beating latter by nine wickets. Batting first, GCW Gandhi Nagar bowled out for 67 runs in 16 overs. Sunita was top scorer with 35 runs. Bhavna and Meenakshi bagged five and three wickets respectively. Later, PG Departments chased the total in 10 overs with nine wickets in hand. Payal remained not out at 42 while Bhavna contributed 11 runs to the score. Today’s quarterfinals were officiated by Rupali Slathia, Vijay Kumar and Sat Pal (scorer). |
