6/8/2022 11:03:52 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 8: Extension and Publicity Wing of the Animal Husbandry department Jammu concluded the two day extensive awareness campaign launched in the hilly and far-flung areas of Kathua district.
The campaign was organised by the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Jammu.
As part of the campaign, awareness camps were organized, in coordination with Chief Animal Husbandry officer Kathua, in Mahanpur, Basohli and Bani blocks of the district in the presence of members of the District Development Council, Sarpanches, Panches. A large number of farmers including women attended the camps and learned about modern cattle farming techniques and government schemes.
Extension Officer Dr. Nadeem Ahmed explained in detail the benefits under different schemes of the department especially Integrated Dairy Development Scheme and urged the farmers to come forward and avail the incentives in the form of 50 percent subsidy on different components viz. establishment of dairy units, milk collection and processing into various value-added dairy products like Khoa, Butter, Ghee, Cheese, Ice-cream, milk transportation and marketing infrastructure, setting up Vermicompost units etc. He further informed the farmers that from this year, Govt. has increased the subsidy amount for various components of the scheme.
Speaking about the schemes offered by the Govt. in the Poultry sector, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Publicity Wing urged the farmers to apply under Integrated Poultry Development Program.
He explained that the subsidized scheme covers most of the aspects of modern poultry farming, right from the establishment of new Broiler/Layer farms, poultry insurance, accessory machinery, and farm equipment. He further informed the farmers that the provision for construction of poultry sheds, at subsidized rates, has also been incorporated in the scheme for the first time.
Each awareness camp was followed by an interactive session where farmers got to ask questions and clear their doubts regarding livestock nutrition and health, an initiative hugely appreciated by the farmers present. Keeping in sync with the ongoing National Animal Disease Control Programme for Brucellosis, farmers were advised to get their 4 to 8 month old female bovine calves vaccinated against Brucellosis disease, which is one of the major causes of infertility among milch animals and can be transmitted to humans too.
Member District Development Council Bani, Reeta Thakur graced the occasion at Bani and thanked the Animal Husbandry Department for organizing awareness drives in remote areas. She further remarked that such initiatives of the department were bound to uplift the farming community.
