Tata reaches Jammu with a call

Jammu, Dec 3: Offering the people of Jammu and Kashmir yet another option, the Tata Tele Services today made a foray into fast growing and promising telecom sector of the state by launch of their Tata-Indicom.
“We have connected Jammu and Kashmir with Kanyakumari”, said Anil Sardana of Tata Tele Services while launching the services here today. The company is investing over Rs 100 crore on the project in the first phase in J&K circle. The company is introducing an exciting range of products under the Tata Indicom umbrella-pre paid and post-paid mobile phone services, fixed wireless telephony and a host of value-added services.
While announcing the launch of Tata cell services in J&K, Anil Sardana, Managing Director and Atul Kansal, Chief Operating Officer (J&K) of Tata Teleservices Limited today said, “the launch of services in the J&K circle is a key milestone in our pursuit of realizing the Tata vision of having a nationwide presence.”
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Anil Sardana said, “With this launch, the brand has achieved a nationwide presence-with cutting-edge network now having a footprint that cuts across the length and breadth of the country. Tata Indicom is committed to providing best in industry product and services, and a host of value added benefits to our customers.”
Sardana told reporters that Tata indicom will provide its customers a unique experience of the latest technology at affordable prices. We are confident that this launch will redefine the way people communicate in the region,” he added.
Atul Kumar, CEO told Tata Indicom products and services will be available at exclusive Tata Indicom showrooms and several selling points across the state. He said the company has over 100 cell sites already in place and with phase 11 of the services rollout around the corner, this number is expected to grow substantially.
It may be mentioned that out of a population of one crore over 25 lakh people have mobile phone sets in the J & K state. Tata Telecom services have set up 116 towers in various areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Out of this 73 towers have been set up in the Jammu region and 43 in the Kashmir valley. The BSNL has more than 500 towers but its services have not remained as dependable as the customers had expected. The BSNL officials said that the services were being upgraded with the setting up another 200 towers. To start with the two capitals and principal towns and their adjoining areas will be covered by the Tatas for providing dependable cell phone facilities to the customers after the BSNL, Airtel and Aircel.
