NSS unit of GDC Kathua organizes rally for women

KATHUA, June 9: The NSS unit and Red- Ribbon Club of Govt. Degree College for women Kathua today under the aegis of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign organized a 'Rally' which was flagged off by Dr Sangita Nagari, esteemed Principal of the College. The route of rally was set from College to the adopted village Changran where the volunteers launched a campaign to aware the common masses regarding the importance of educating the girl child. The main motive to conduct such activity was to spread awareness among the people regarding the various schemes launched by center as well as UT, and to convey them the Importance of girl child and her Education for the welfare of the family and the society. The event began with the address of Dr. Sangita Nagari worthy Principal, who spoke that the main objective of such activities is to discourage Female Foeticide, to ensure the protection and survival of the girl child, encouraging education of the girl child. She stressed upon this issue and told girls to play a prominent role in the cultural, social, Political and economic life of a country and also quoted the importance of our constitution which gives great importance to the equality of status and opportunities for girls. She revealed among the students that as per the 2011 national census, the reduction in the number of female population in various states of the India had led to the establishment of this campaign. So, it is the utmost duty of each and every citizen of India to create a model of nation where gender equality exists.
Dr. Arun Dev Singh, NSS Programme Officer further stressed upon the necessity of encouragement and support to girl child to inculcate the interest for academics and inspired people for proper care of all girls without any discrimination on the bases of gender. He educated the parents during door-to-door campaign. Mr. Ramesh Kumar, Sarpanch of the Village also spoke and assured on the behalf of the people that the proper care and important possible measures would be taken for the well-being of the girl child. Volunteers by keeping in their hands the posters and slogans, reflecting the ideas of Girl education and Her proper upbringing, raised slogans, distributed stationary and confectionary items among the girls. This whole event was conducted under the supervision of NSS organizing team Prof. Raj Kumari, Prof. Pallavi and Dr. Rajni Khajuria. The faculty members Prof. Ashwani Khajuria, Prof. Ravinder Kour and Dr. Naresh Sharma applauded the volunteers for their Zeal and enthusiasm in such events.
