| Farooq has foot in two boats | | After Hazratbal, NC patron jumps at Sonwar | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Dec 3: It reflects less of confidence and much of insecurity as the Chief Ministerial of National Conrference candidate Dr Farooq Abdullah today jumped the fray from yet another constituency in Srinagar City. The solace, however, is that Abdullah’s sister and wife of ANC chief GM Shah, Khaleda Abdullah Shah has pulled out of contest against Farooq. Apparently, not to take chances, National Conference patron and party's chief ministerial candidate Dr. Farooq Abdullah submitted nomination papers from Sonwar assembly constituency on Wednesday. Farooq is contesting two places, other being Hazratbal –also in Srinagar City. Dr. Farooq Abdullah, who earlier filed his nomination papers from Hazratbal constituency, also filed the same from Sonwar constituency at the office of Returning Officer, Bemina Wednesday afternoon. Earlier Yasin Shah was party candidate for Sonwar but fearing a stiff competition in Hazratbal constituency; NC high command decided to take no chance for chief ministerial candidate Dr. Farooq and nominated him as party candidate for Sonwar constituency as well. An interesting contest was in the offing, had not Dr. Farooq's sister Khalida Shah abondoned the idea of filing nomination papers from the same constituency. Sources told PBI that some family friends mediated to stop confrontation between Dr. Farooq and Khalida Shah in the election thereby creating a family feud in Sheikh Dynasty. Khalida later told that the health problems of her husband, Ghulam Mohammad Shah prompted her to shelve the idea of contesting from Sonwar constituency. Earlier, Dr. Farooq had filed nomination papers from Hazratbal, where he replaced two time MLA, Syed Akhoon as NC candidate. Akhoon, sources maintained, was sure of securing a hat-trick this time but the emergence of the party patron robbed him from such opportunity. The constituency, observers believe, will see a community based contest and it has compelled NC to look for another safe constituency for Dr. Farooq Abdullah. |
