| Mufti ‘kin’ joins Abdullah camp | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 3: National Conference has described as ‘significant development’ and big achievement for the party as estranged kin of former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed joined the Abdullah party in Srinagar today. A development that is not seen as any embarrassment to the Peoples Democratic party for long snapped relations, Mehbooba Mufti’s estranged husband Javed Iqbal on Wednesday joined the National Conference and pledged to work for strengthening the party. National Conference has described Javed’s joining the party as ‘significant political development’. Welcoming Javed in party fold, Dr Farooq Abdullah said, “Javed has joined the platform which suits his stature”. Javed Iqbal joined NC at Bemina on Wednesday when NC patron was filing his nomination for the Sonwar constituency in Srinagar. Javed appeared before the media and said that he has decided to join NC and work for strengthening the party in the state. Reports said that Javed Iqbal was welcomed by NC patron Farooq Abdullah and was assured of full support from the party. "Now you have come to a platform that suits your stature," Farooq Abdullah told Javed Iqbal. Farooq said that Javed will be working to strengthen the NC and the party will be going all out to support him in his endeavor. Pertinent to mention that Javed Iqbal and PDP President, Mehbooba have separated some years back owing to differences between the couple. Javed Iqbal a lawyer by profession has finally decided to join the political bandwagon. The gathering was among others addressed by Mohammad Akbar Lone and Nazir Hussain Khan National Conference contesting candidate from Baramulla. |
