| Panthers Party seeks EC intervention in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 4: In a letter written to the Election Commission the Panthers Party has alleged that the state administration was openly working only for Congress, National Conference and PDP by providing them all help, transport, security during the election campaign, thus violating the model code of conduct while on the other hand the Panthers Party have been subjected to harassment, intimidation and denied their security cover and other facilities which are provided to the candidates of other recognized and even unrecognized registered political parties. The letter further alleges that the Superintendent of Police of respective districts have taken away all light vehicles, private or taxis in the name of security from the roads and deployed the same with the candidates of National Conference, Congress and PDP in the name of security. This is a tragedy that all the helicopters of Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. have been taken by the Congress Party in J&K for the entire period as a result of which the Panthers Party has been denied an opportunity to campaign in the hilly areas for want of helicopters. The party is prepared to pay for the helicopters charges under rules but the Congress administration has orally directed the Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd., a Government of India enterprise, not to provide any helicopter to the Panthers Party. This is the kind of situation in J&K, the letter said seeking immediate intervention to save the electoral process. You are also requested to immediately direct the concerned to ensure that candidates and leaders of all political parties are given equal level of protection and security cover, transport vehicles, accommodation etc. and also to ensure that Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. ends discrimination towards the Panthers Party without any further delay", the letter adds. |
