Handicapped observe World Disabled day as ‘Black day’
12/4/2008 10:36:06 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Bhaderwah, Dec 4: Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Welfare Association unit District Doda observed the World Disabled day as ‘black day’ and strongly criticized the Governor and the Social Welfare Department for neglecting the handicapped.
The association said though it was the primary duty of the social welfare department to organize functions in connection with the observance of the day but regretted that the department has never taken the handicapped seriously and more so the schemes launched for their welfare have remained on papers only.
The association president Riaz Ahmed Mir said that in spite of lapse of so much time the State Government is turning deaf ears towards the commitment and promises made with the disabled. He said as a result of this callous attitude of the authorities, the association observed the day as a black day in the entire district.
