| Drivers, conductors frame new body | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 4: A new trade union organization of drivers and conductors working in the private transport business was constituted today, by a prominent trade union leader, Ghulam Qadar Ding, who is also the Vice President of Rashtriya Krantokari Samajwadi Party and is fighting election to the state assembly from Gandhi Nagar constituency. As per press release, the union of drivers and conductors employed in the private transport sector has been formed, with a view to safeguard their common interests and to spare them being exploited by the transporters. The union will strive for ensuring minimum salary of Rs 6000 to a driver and Rs 3000 to conductors engaged by any private transporter company or an individual transporter. Their services should not be dispensed with at the whims and fancy of the owner of a truck or bus or any other vehicle. To ensure timely and regular disbursement of salary to the drivers and conductors, the union will press for opening of the bank accounts of the drivers and conductors and their employers bound to deposit their salaries in their bank accounts. The union will also ensure that before removing any driver or conductor from the service on any complaint, the employer must refer4 the matter to the union and can take action against the employee, only after convincing the union of any misconduct on the part of the employee. The union also demands that all drivers and conductors must be ensured by their employers and in case of any mishap and causality, their insurance claims be settled well in time. Further in case of death of any driver or conductor in an accident his son or any other family member should get priority in getting the job. Further, any driver and conductor killed in militancy, particularly when they are on duty with the security forces, they must get the compensation at par with what is paid to the security personnel killed in action. The union will also create awareness among the drivers and conductors to act as good citizens and follow all the rules of traffic and civilized behaviour. |
