KVK, imparts training on SHGs, Women Empowerment

REASI, June 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day training programme on "Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Women Empowerment" here today at Gunn village of Pouni block in Reasi district of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of women farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of participants. During the exhaustive technical session he highlighted the concept of Self Help Group (SHG) and women empowerment and narrated that SHGs can play the pivotal role to empower the rural women by generating income and employment among themselves. He elaborated various income generation activities among the rural women and stressed on agri-entrepreneurship development in rural areas. He said that the SHGs can transform the rural areas by raising the socio-economic conditions of the rural women. He said that SHGs formation has immense scope in hilly areas and can play a significant role in the eradication of poverty from these downtrodden areas. He motivated the participants to utilize the scheme benefits of the banks and guided them for the income generation activities in agriculture with a vision to enhance their income and employment. He suggested that group President should have democratic traits and she should consider the opinion of other members of the group in decision making of the group. He discussed in detail on the homogeneity, fortnight meetings and proper book keeping of SHGs. The scientist also guided the participants for the entrepreneurship development in pickles making, dairy products making, value adwith pxi dition in vegetables ,fruits, spices and floriculture, soap making, mushroom cultivation etc. in their groups. He also guided the participants on the preservation technologies of seasonal fruits and vegetables and elaborated the techniques of their value addition. He also guided the participants on packaging, leveling, branding and marketing of processed agro-products. Anita Devi,an awardee farm woman of the area also shared her experienes with the participants. During the programme many quarries were raised by the group's members which were answered satisfactorily by the scientist. The programme was concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
