6/22/2022 10:41:52 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 22: The water level at Sangam gauge in south Kashmir on River Jhelum has touched 21ft flood declaration mark Wednesday afternoon. However, it was below the danger mark at Pampore, Ram Munshi Bagh and Asham, an independent Kashmir weather observatory said.
The water level at Sangam at 1400 hours touched 21ft, the mark of declaration floods in the area while it was flowing at alarming mark at Pampore 4.15m while at Ram Munshi Bagh 15.47ft and at Asham 15.47ft below alarming mark respectively.
The tributaries including Vishow Nallah at Khudwani, Rambiyara Nallah at Wachi, Lidder Nallah at Batkoot, Doodhganga Nallah at Barzulla, Sindh Nallah at Doderhama, Sukhnag Nallah at Arizal, Ferozpora Nallah at Drung, and Pohru Nallah at Seelu have also swollen due to the rains.
“The department is monitoring the entire situation alongwith whole staff so that there should not be any inconvenience caused to the people”, Kumar said while talking to the media.
“It is right that the water levels have risen due to rains but so far the overall situation is under control”, he said and added “River Jhelum at Sangam in south Kashmir has just touched the flood mark. However, the rain has stopped and if we go through the Meteorological Department forecast there are chances that weather will improve after some time which would simultaneously improve the overall situation.
Regarding the status of Jhelum River he said “if we go through the present level at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar it is running below the danger mark”.
He said so far the water level has risen in the Jhelum river in south Kashmir and in other places it is flowing below alert level.
“We have not yet declared any flood threat, the situation is being monitored”, Kumar said.
He suggested downloading the Kashmir flood mobile App to know the real position of the situation..
Replying to a question he said, temporary restoration teams have been dispatched to several places where streams and nallah have got damaged due to flash floods.
He said “we have received reports of breaches caused in Sopore and Tangmarg in north Kashmir where men and machines are on the job to restore them on remedial measures”.
Kumar said “If rains stop there would be no serious flood threat situation in the valley, do not anticipate anything that would be too early.”
