Krishi Vigyan Kendra organizes awareness-cum-training Programme on Natural Farming | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 22: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised one day awareness-cum-training programme on natural farming here today at Dasanu village of Reasi district which was enthuastically attended by a number of farmers of the village. The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal briefed the objective of the programme and discussed on the importance of natural farming. He narrated that Reasi district of J&K has huge scope in natural farming and the farmers can easily adopt the natural farming as already they are utilizing most of the natural resources and inputs for farming from their fields. He expressed that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers. He said that by the adoption on natural farming farmers can enhance their income with minimum or no input cost. He demonstrated the technique of preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit and also elaborated the practices of mulching and Acchadana required for the natural farming. He also discussed on Atam Nirbar Krishi and stressed on the adoption of natural farming for the production of quality and healthy food. He said that for a healthy society, quality food is required and natural farming can play a significant role for the production of safe and healthy food.He further added that natural farming is also beneficial for the maintenance soil health and environment. He also guided the farmers on Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) formation. An interactive session was also organized for the farmers during which farmers asked various quarries which were answered by the KVK officilas in a satisfactorily way. During the programme, an awardee woman farmer of the area, Anita Devi was also present.
