| Bishnah up for tough clash | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 5: Bishnah Assembly seat in Jammu is witnessing multi-corner contest with large number of prominent candidates in the fray. The sitting MLA Ashwini Sharma of JSM is fighting a tough battle to retain his seat. The congress has fielded former R&B and Education Minister Gulchain Singh Charak, BJP has given its mandate to Shilpi Verma, widow of Kudeep Dogra, who sacrificed his life over Amarnath land transfer row. National Conference has fielded former BSP Chief Yashpaul Bhagat and Kamal Arora, a rebel NC leader is contesting on BSP ticket. A total number of 30 candidates are in the fray in Bisnah. The common voter in Bishnah Assembly constituency is demanding better living conditions and maintenance of roads above every thing else. Different candidates are seeking mandate by raising issues of good governance, fight against terror, to end problem of unemployment, compensation for farmers etc The Assembly seat has become prestigious seat as several star campaigners are going to campaign in the constituency in support of their party candidates. Apparently sitting MLA is locked in straight fight with BJP and Congress nominee but presence of two more heavy weight candidates may make dent in their vote bank spoiling their prospects of winning the elections. The congress candidate is focusing his campaign on giving assurances to farmers that they would receive adequate compensation in lieu of damaged crops due to untimely rain and hailstorm. Shipli is seeking mandate to pay tribute to her husband’s sacrifice and evoking good response. The complex nature of caste equation in the constituency too would tilt the support in favour of winning candidates if votes are not divided between two candidates belonging to the same caste. |
