NC’s tribute to Sheikh’s secularism on 103rd b’day

Jammu, Dec 5: The l03rd Birth Anniversary of Baba-e-Quom Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was celebrated today at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu.
Senior Party leaders and people from different walks of life, prominent citizens thronged party office in large numbers to pay tributes to the great son of the soil on his Birth Anniversary.
Women and youth wings of the party organized big rallies which after passing through different bazaars of the city culminated at the party headquarters amidst chanting of slogan of ‘Hindu Muslim Sikh Itehad’.
The celebrations started from early in the morning with Quran Khawani followed by fruit distribution among poor orphan and destitute at Virdh Ashram and Mother Teresa Centre, Jammu.
While paying tributes to astute visionary, S. Harbans Singh said that Sheikh Sahib always worked for the welfare of the masses and had envisaged dream for peace progress for the people of the State. He recalled and refreshed the memories of the days when Sheikh Sahib took over as the Prime Minister of J&K state. He said the real tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir will be to follow the path shown by him.
Terming the Mumbai incident as the most unfortunate one, S. Harbans Singh said such barbaric acts deserve every condemnation and expressed sympathies with the families of the deceased and those injured.
He said unity and integrity are the basics of our heritage and we should remain cautious about the elements, who want to create a divide among us. We should uphold the traditional communal brotherhood and secularism at all times, he appealed.
Envisaging an era of peace and development, S. Harbans Singh said National Conference after coming to power will bring a special employment policy for the youth of the state.
The coalition alliance in last assembly elections, he said, had pledged to provide one job to every household in the state but the promise turned out to be hollow. "What happened to the promises made by the coalition alliance in the last assembly elections", he asked adding, "Unemployment continues to hunt the youth.
Rattan Lal Gupta, senior Vice President while paying tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir said that the firebrand secular leader of all the time implemented the agrarian reforms to give the rights to the tiller which till date has not been implemented in any part of the country. Lambasting the political parties who are hell bent to divide people on religious and community basis, Gupta said that National Conference never fought elections on religious grounds and has always worked for the welfare of the common people with sincerity and dedication.
"We believe in equitable development of all the three regions, community and caste", he said adding; "We never tried to fragment people in society for political gains".
He advised the rank and file of the party to fan out in their respective areas, take programs and polices of the National Conference to every nook and comer.
Those who addressed the function included Ram Paul, former Minister, Bimla Luthra, Provincial President Women, Vijay Lakshmi Dutta, Surinder Singh Bunty, Provincial President YNC, Aijaz Jan, Provincial Secretary YNC Dharamveer Singh Jamwal, Dy. Mayor, Ravi Dogra, Mohd Ayub Malik, Ch. Arshad, S. Balwinder Singh, Ch. Bashir Ahmed Khatana, Abdul Gani Tali and Pardeep Bali.
Reports about celebrations of the birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammede Abdullah have also been received from Kishtwar, Ramban, Banihal, Doda, Kathua, Poonch and other parts of Jammu region.
