| ‘Opening of Mughal road another landmark’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Uri, Dec 5: Felicitating the people of Jammu and Kashmir in general and Poonch, Rajouri and Shopian in particular, for the historic opening of Mughal road, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said Thursday's trial run of light vehicles on the road is a great moment for the State. "It is now a matter of days, when the Mughal Road would be opened for full-fledged traffic," senior PDP leader Tariq Hameed Karra said at an election rally in the border town of Uri today. He said the untiring efforts of the party Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to revive Jammu and Kashmir's unique distinctiveness in the region have started yielding results as the State has started opening up to the World both through intra and inter-state routes. "While on one hand opening of Srinagar-Muzafarabad road for movement of people and goods has brought the historic town of Uri in limelight, the opening of Mughal Road is a windfall for the people of Rajouri and Poonch," Karra said and added that with better and faster connectivity with the rest of the State, the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri would soon touch new heights of economic prosperity. Karra said revival of not only the traditional cross-LoC routes, but restoration of discarded communication links within the State is PDP's agenda and the party would realize this dream. "The PDP government had besides Mughal Road, already started working on opening of Uri-Poonch, Anantnag-Kishtwar, Budgam-Poonch and Gulmarg-Poonch roads," he said and added that the task would be accomplished once PDP comes to power again. Urging people to keep in mind the credibility and performance of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed while going to vote, Karra said as the State and the region are going through a crucial phase, Jammu and Kashmir needs a leader who doesn't compromise the people's interests for power. Karra said Sayeed has become a symbol of stability and peace, not only within the State, but throughout the region, while the National Conference Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah is being seen as a non-serious politician with deluxe tastes. "It is for the people to decide whether they want stability and peace in the State or fantasy and uncertainty," he said. PDP candidate for Uri constituency Shabir Ahmad also addressed the meeting. |
