| Mehbooba calls for withdrawal of troops | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Anantnag, Dec 5: Expressing shock and anguish over the alleged highhandedness of the security forces with a teenage girl at Dandipora, Kokernag, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has demanded stern action against the individuals involved in the disgraceful act. Addressing a series of election rallies in Dooru constituency today, Mehbooba said such shameful acts are intolerable and warrants immediate disciplinary action against the security forces personnel responsible for dishonoring the chastity of the innocent girl. She said this is the second shocking act perpetrated, reportedly, by the security forces personnel in succession of the recent custodial killing of Ghulam Hassan Malla of Maniyal, Shopian. Reiterating her party's demand for withdrawal of troops from the civilian areas, Mehbooba said, with the improvement in security situation, the presence of troops in the civilian areas is now proving counter-productive and they must be withdrawn from such areas. She said "Our young boys and girls have suffered immense trauma and for God’s sake let them live peacefully now," she said and added that the biggest difference that PDP had made to the State's security situation after it came to power in 2002 was that the youth had started breathing in free air away from the fear of death and intimidation. Mehbooba said that if PDP comes to power, the party would ensure that our youth not only live without fear, but also get better opportunities of education and employment. PDP candidate for Dooru Farooq Ahmad Indrabi also addressed the rallies. |
