| Vohra counsels youth to take up challenging careers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Dec 6: Governor, N N Vohra, today called for promoting the entrepreneurship culture in Jammu and Kashmir with focus on setting up of local raw material based units. During his inspection of the upcoming J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) at Pampore, near here, this morning, the Governor said that floriculture and horticulture based products have a wide market within and outside the State. Mr. Vohra stressed the need for harnessing the available abundant horticulture and floriculture potential for giving a new dimension to the economic activity. Though tourism and pilgrim tourism were largely the mainstay of the State economy yet fruit based industrial units along side joinery and floriculture hold a big promise for improving the economic landscape and providing direct and indirect employment to the youth, he observed. The Governor was informed that the Entrepreneur Development Institute has embarked upon a massive awareness and training Programme in the State to motivate the youth to take up income generating units in a big way. Since its inception in 2004, the Institute has organized 206 Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps covering about 14,316 boys and girls. Similarly, about 6,000 youths were covered under Entrepreneur Development and Entrepreneur Orientation Programmes. Of these, 250 enterprising youths have established their units across the State. Mr Vohra directed the EDI to carry out a massive awareness campaign for motivating the youth in potentially viable vocations. "The success stories of the successful entrepreneurs should be highly publicized to inspire youth take up such avenues", he said, and exhorted the educated unemployed youth to taking up challenging careers under the Self Employment Programme rather than hankering after the white collar jobs. The Governor went round the complex being constructed over 40 kanals of land at a cost of Rs. 10.48 crore. The complex is likely to be completed in the next two months. The Institute building shall have well furnished lecture halls, computer and audio visual labs, library, conference hall, common lounges, reception, back office, Administration Section, chamber for faculty members, capsule lift and a spacious canteen with appropriate waiting space. The five storeyed building will be centrally heated and cooled with the latest technology. The Governor also visited the site belonging to State Road Transport Corporation at Pampore and discussed with the officers about the use of 181 kanals prime land in the close vicinity of the capital city. He also went round the site of the Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation, which is proposed to be used for raising mega hyper Mall or Corporate Complex or a Housing Colony, depending upon the relative viability and profitability. Vyas, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Mr. Masud Samoon, Managing Director, Police Housing Corporation, Mr. Ravinder Kotwal, Managing Director, JKPCC, Mr. Dilip Thusoo, District Development Commissioner, Pulwama, Mr. I.A. Ashai and Director EDI, Dr. M.I. Parrey accompanied the Governor during his visit. |
