| Army- BRDO interactive workshop at Nagrota | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 6: An Army-DRDO interactive workshop was held at White Knight Corps at Nagrota today which was inaugurated by Lt. Gen RK Swamy, GOC. A team of 18 Scientists from DRDO and Army officers, representing all formations of Northern Command, participated in the workshop. The workshop was organized to promote better understanding between Army and DRDO on issues relating to the requirements of equipment / products by the Army in terrorism prone areas. The interaction also served as a platform for the DRDO to showcase their achievements in the areas of Life Science. In his inaugural address, Lt. Gen Swamy lauded the achievement of DRDO and made a pointed reference to the cutting edge technologies in the field of all weather multimode surveillance, Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and close combat weapons. He stressed need to focus upon the man behind the machine, developing systems to increase a soldier’s lethality, survivability and mobility, besides developing state of the art techniques to overcome battle environmental hazards, physical and psychological stresses. He emphasized the need to have a more meaningful dialogue in order to drive full benefit of the experimental work of DRDO. Addressing the workshop, Chief Controller, Research and Development, DRDO, Dr Seivamurthy gave an insight into the research work being carried out at the Life Sciences Laboratories under the Directorate of Life Sciences (Ministry of Defence) in support of the Armed Forces. He also expressed the desire to understand the dynamics of management of terrorism so that scientists at the DRDO can focus their potential at developing potent technologies for benefit of soldiers. During the course of the workshop, Commanders from the field formations gave a detailed presentation on the requirement of equipment and products required for troops engaged in combating terrorism. The healthy debates and discussions held during the conference would foster a better understanding between the Army and DRDO about the requirements and capabilities, besides leading to a commonality of aim. The workshop ended with the display of innovations conceived by troops in the formations, which were appreciated by the DRDO fraternity. The workshop provided a much needed opportunity to the members of the Armed Forces to discuss and exchange ideas with DRDO that would be instrumental in shaping the thought process for our future technology development. |
