J&K UT fencers qualify for senior Commonwealth Fencing Championship

JAMMU, July 8: The two ace international fencers from J&K UT viz Shreya Gupta and Vishal Thapar have qualified for the Senior Commonwealth Fencing championship to be held at London, England from 9th to 20th August 2022. These fencers have qualified for this prestigious Championship on the basis of their ranking and splendid performance in selection trials held at NSNIS Patiala and ASI today on 9th July 22. The top sixteen ranked players of 32nd senior national championship participated in these selection trials. It is pertinent to add here that both Shreya Gupta and Vishal had already qualified for World championship to be played at Cairo, Egypt this month.
In a press release the President of J&K Amateur Fencing Association M J Sharma, IFS (retd.) appreciated the hard work and superb performance of these fencers in qualifying for this prestigious tournament. He wished them good luck and hoped that they will bring laurels for the country as well for JK UT. Sharma said that it's the mixed efforts of coaches of J&K Sports council Shotu Lal Sharma, Rachna Jamwal and J&K Amateur Fencing Association which is paying dividends. He also lauded the efforts, whole hearted support of Secretary, J&k Sports Council Nuzhat Gull which is bringing out such marvelous achievements from the players. He also thanked Sports council for providing all necessary support, infrastructure to the players.
Meanwhile, Nuzhat Gull congratulated the players for their excellent performance in qualifying for the commonwealth championship and said the J&K Sports Council is always committed to support the players in every respect. She congratulated Shreya Gupta for getting selected in TARGET OLYMPICS PODIUM SCHEME of Government of India and for joining NCOE Gujrat.
