MUFTI’S UN VISIT
BAIG BURNs MIDNIGHT OIL, preparing SELF RULE DOCUMENT
9/15/2006 8:53:07 PM

Jammu, September 15 :- The dethroned PDP leader,Mr Muzaffar Hussain Baig,is back to shoulder sensitive matters of the party and the party patron,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed, has again reposed trust in him by giving him the assignment of preparing a detailed document on the idea of self-rule which could form the basis for the settlement of the Kashmir issue.
Party sources have disclosed that Baig has been asked to burn the midnight oil and get the document prepared so that the same could be presented to UN members on the sidelines of the session.
It is irony of fate that the same Baig who had castigated the Muftis on misleading the people by the slogan of self-rule has been entrusted the task of preparing the document on the self-rule.
Party sources said that Mufti Sayeed is keen to counter the National Conference demand for the restoration of greater autonomy and on the other make the congress partner, which has been ridiculing the idea of self-rule, feel small in the eyes of the
people of Kashmir.
If given a chance Mufti Mohd.Sayeed plans to visit New York during the UN General Assembly session, which is starting from September 19, where he is likely to submit the document on self-rule. Reports said that the Mufti also plans to have one-to-one meeting with Pakistan President,Gen. Parvez Musharraf,on the sidelines of the UN session where the two could discuss the possibility of experimenting with the self-rule idea for resolving the Kashmir issue. Once the Mufti is able to meet Gen. Musharraf it may enable him to enlarge his political figure in the eyes of the people of Kashmir.
Delhi continues to hold Mufti Mohd.Sayeed important as it believes that he has a role to play in defusing the situation and in normalizing the relations between India and Pakistan.
