NC strong votary of secularism, communal harmony: Farooq
12/8/2008 11:36:06 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Bani, Dec 8: Jammu and Kashmir State has always been an example of secular values and should remain so, said Dr. Farooq Abdullah former chief minister and Patron National Conference, while addressing series of public meetings at Duggan, Fatheypur, Mahanpur and Magloor in support of Ghulam Hyder Malik, Devender Singh Bindu and Romy Khajuria, party's candidates from Bani, Basholi and Billawar assembly constituencies.
Dr. Abdullah said there are traditional bonds of brotherhood between people of different religions and regions in the state and those bonds need to be strengthened and the forces which are trying to weaken these should be identified and isolated.
He said it was unfortunate that the some national and regional political parties were trying to create a religious and regional wedge between the people of the state which he said will adversely affect the secular fabric of the state.
"I appeal to the people of the state to be wary of political parties playing the religious or regional card for their cheap vote bank politics little realizing that the strength of the nation is its secularism".
Dr. Abdullah said National Conference has always been a strong votary of secularism, communal harmony and brotherhood and shall continue to uphold these values in the interest of the state and its people.
Expressing dismay over the pathetic condition in the far flung areas of the state, Dr. Abdullah said "the far flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir have been totally neglected by the erstwhile Congress-PDP government and so shall need special emphasis and focus for their integrated development".
"Many road projects which were started by the previous NC government in Bani, and to name a few Bani-Dhaggar , Bani – Bhander, Siara -Jorha Mata and Bani-Rolkh roads, were stopped by the erstwhile Congress-PDP government. I promise that my party after coming to power will re-start the work of these roads, besides taking many other projects for the development of these constituencies".
Dr. Abdullah said NC is for simultaneous development in all areas to remove the sense of alienation from the minds of people and added that the prosperity of the state lies only in uniform development of all the regions.
Dr. Abdullah promised that party if voted to power will bring special package for the Below Poverty Line people living in the far flung areas of the state and will enhance the amount of old age and handicapped pension, furthermore a mechanism shall be evolved to ensure that the pension to the old age pensioners reaches at their door step, besides creating employment avenues for the unemployed youth of the state.
The public meeting at Magloor in Billawar assembly constituency was also addressed by Th. Kashmira Singh ex-MLC and Soma Devi.
