| ….aftershocks being felt in Jammu | | | SAISHA GUPTA Jammu, Dec 8: Three phases of elections in Jammu and Kashmir are pending and the constituencies up for voting are mostly those where BJP is locked in contest with Congress. Following results coming from five states the shocks and awes are clearly visible in the poll turf of Jammu region. In all five states which went to polls in the country, ahead of impending Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had its campaign focused on terrorism and expected people to vote for myths. This is what BJP is doing in Jammu and Kashmir –showing people dead and charred bodies from the scenes of terror attacks. As the electorate in Delhi, Rajasthan and Mizoram deal BJP with deadly blow, the party is into second thoughts in Jammu region where it has been projecting itself as defender of national security. As the results started coming out since early this morning and television channels ran marathon discussions on ill conceived campaigns on terrorism which is a national challenge, disappointment was writ large in the BJP camp in Jammu while the Congress leaders rushed to the people explaining public response from Rajasthan and Delhi. “We respect the public verdict but this not we had expected”, says former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shanta Kumar managing BJP campaign in Jammu. A shocked Kumar pointed out, “peoples respond differently to the issues at different places”. He apparently meant to say that what failed to work in Rajasthan and Delhi may still work in Jammu. The Congress, on the other hand, said that wave was clearly in its favour and results of Rajasthan and Delhi were about to repeat in Jammu. Upbeat over its land slide victory in three states including the Union capital New Delhi and expressed its optimism to continue this winning spree by trouncing its all rivals in the ongoing elections in the Jammu and Kashmir state assembly. Addressing a massive public gathering at Arnia in Bishnah today where former minister Gulchian Singh Charak is seeking election on the party ticket, several senior party leaders reminded the masses about the false and tall claims of BJP leaders of forming the government at Delhi and said that the people’s verdict has gone well with the policies and programs of the city. Charak took BJP and his other rivals to task for befooling the people on false promises and maintained that it is the congress party that alone could deliver on the ground. ‘Making promises are easy but fulfilling these are very difficult’, he remarked. Questioning about the claims of BJP forming the government in the state, Charak said that the party was ‘day dreaming’ as it’s has not even been able to muster support of their own activists what to speak of the masses. With whom they want to form the government is a million dollar question that needs to be replied to, Charak asked. Former Minister B R Kundal and Prof Hari Om who also addressed the state and its people. Congress party under leadership of Ghulam Nabi Azad did it and assured that if voted to power, the state would achieve new heights of progress and may even surpass few of the developed states in the country. Vote for congress is vote for peace and stability, they said. |
