| Last phase crucial for parties | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 9: Eighteen constituencies in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts are going to prove decisive for four political parties, the Congress, the BJP, the Panthers and the National Conference. These very constituencies will determine whether the two factions of the BSP will be able to register their presence in the Assembly The PDP does not seem to have much on stake in these 18 constituencies. The poll results from these 18 constituencies will fashion the future of at least the Congress and the National Conference, besides giving a chance to the BJP to improve its performance of 2002, when it won only a solitary seat of Nagrota. Senior BJP leader, Chander Mohan Sharma, said that “we are having an edge in two of three seats in the Jammu city.” He said in addition to this the BJP candidates in Bishnah, Samba, Marh, Nagrota and Kathua continue to receive positive response to their appeal for vote from the people of the area. Panthers Party has intensified its campaign from Jammu East constituency where the party candidate Bhim Singh went on a padyatra in the entire constituency today. He and other leaders, including Harsh Dev Singh, have decided to concentrate in the constituencies of Hiranagar, Kathua, Billawar, Bishnah, Samba, R .S.Pora,Vijaypur and six other segments. Harsh Dev Singh said that “we have fielded party candidates in all the 18 constituencies and we have pooled all the resources at our command to win majority of seats from these three districts.” Congress spokesman, Ravinder Sharma, said that “in 2002 poll the Congress had bagged 13 out of 18 seats in Jammu, ,Kathua and now Samba districts. We hope to better our performance.” He said several leaders have been deputed for giving a fillip to the Congress campaign in these 18 constituencies.” |
