J&K lost poet of emotions, feelings

Jammu, Dec 9: Most famous Gojri Poet and Writer Choudhary Israil Asar passed away last night due to massive heart attack at Lambheri , 60 Km from Rajouri town on Jammu –Poonch highway. He was 92.
A nomad by life, he belongs to Bakerwal Clan of Gujjar Tribe. His last rites were performed at Lambheri today in which thousands of people including his admirers participated.
Choudhary Mohammad Israil Asar , was first among the Gojri writers of Jammu and Kashmir State who had been crowned with highest National literary award in the field of literature " Bhasha Samman" presented to him by Sahitya Akademi' New Delhi , in 2001. The award was conferred to him for his life contribution in the field of Gojri language and literature.
Author of more than one dozen books Asar's was also awarded by State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in 1981 for his collection "Dukhtien Aas" . His poetic compositions were highly appreciated in the literary circles and the Gujjar and Bakerwal community.
His hundreds of songs have been recorded by All India Radio, Radio Kashmir, Doordarshan and other wings of electronic media. Those who sang him include famous Punjabi Singer Aasa Singh Mastana, Surinder Kour, Parkash Kour, Jatinder Kour, Shamima Dev, Kailash Mehra,
He had penned thousands of Ghazals, Si Harfis, Nazamas, Kafis and Dohas but his Geets brought him good name in the Gojri literature. His writing are marked by simplicity and a direct appeal to emotions as also humanistic outlook.
Born in 1916 in a nomad Bakerwal –Bajran family at Lambari, a small village in the Rajouri district of Jammu region, Israil Asar started his first poetic composition at the tender age of 12. He went on to become a leading mystic poet of Gojri.
Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary Academy expressed deep grief and sorrow over the said demise of legendry poet of Gojri and said that Asar was a poet of feelings and emotions. He added that Choudhary Asar was associated with Academy for more than three decades as a member of various advisory and constitutional bodies.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Head of Gojri wing of State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages while condoling the death of Choudhary Israil Asar said that we have lost a prominent and popular voice of Gojri Language who enriched our literature with his valuable writings . He was among the trend setters in Gojri Language, Rahi, added.
