| Bamboo mission launched in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA, DEC 9: A daylong workshop on National Bamboo Mission organized by the School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in collaboration with the State Forest Research institution Jammu, was held here at university campus. The Vice Chancellor, SMVDU Professor N. K. Bansal, inaugurated the workshop while Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Sonali Kumar presided. Prof. Bansal under scored the importance of Bamboo production in giving a boost to the economy & spoke about its various utilities. He expressed the hope that the deliberations of the workshop will lead to concrete work plan for Bamboo cultivation and assured of all possible assistance by the SMVDU in this task. Sonali Kumar launched the National Bamboo Mission in the state talked about the initial hiccups in bamboo Mission in the state and further highlighted the role of biotechnologists. She said that the best technology and techniques can come up and administration can ensure the well being of farmers. She said such sponsored schemes will immensely benefit the people of the state. In his welcome address Director State Forest Research Institute R. D. Tiwari gave an overview of the wide application and economic importance of Bamboo. He also spoke about the aims and objectives of the National Bamboo mission. The Workshop was attended by experts of Agriculture, Forest department & Faculty Members SMVD University. Prof. V. Verma, Dean School of Biotechnology presented vote of thanks. Subika Jamwal, a student of Biotechnology conducted the proceeding of the workshop. |
